The Global HeartStrings Supply Drive Kit

Most musicians have things lying around that they don’t need.  “Old” strings, sheet music that’s the “wrong” edition, rejected reeds, or even a shoulder rest from a smaller instrument.  These items sit gathering dust in closets and cabinets, unused and unwanted.  And yet, there are many musicians all over the world who are in desperate need of these same items!  Wouldn’t it be great if we could send our extra things to people who will use them and clean out our closets at the same time?  Well, with a Global HeartStrings supply drive, you can!

So how do I do this?

The first thing you need to do is download and print out our complete kit containing posters, fliers, and volunteer sheets.  There are instructions included to help you get started.  All you need to do is choose a location and dates, gather a few volunteers, find a box for your donated items, and get an envelope or cash box for money.

Where should I put the posters?

Put them in as many creative locations as you can think of.  Bulletin boards, lockers, and studio doors are obvious places, but don’t forget about high-traffic spots like bathrooms!

Can I accept financial contributions?

Absolutely!  We are always in need of money to purchase additional items and to cover the cost of mailing packages of supplies.  You can accept cash and checks made out to the Rachel Elizabeth Barton Foundation or REB Foundation.  Be sure to put Global HeartStrings in the memo line of the checks.

Can donors get a tax deduction for their contributions?

Yes. Be sure to ask each donor if they want a tax deduction letter for their contribution of supplies or money.  If they do, write their name and information on the donation sheet.  After you send this sheet to the REB Foundation, we will take care of the rest.

What if I’m not part of a musical organization?  Can I help too?

Of course you can!  There are a lot of items that are more likely to be found at a musician’s house (like reeds or strings), but we need other things too.  If you belong to a religious organization or community group, go ahead and host a supply drive for CDs, CD players, batteries, books about music, and other related items.  Please click here for examples of supplies needed.

What do I do when the drive is done?

Contact the Rachel Elizabeth Barton Foundation at rebfoundation@aol.com or 312-329-1170 to arrange for delivery.  Change cash into a money order or cashier’s check made out to the Rachel Elizabeth Barton Foundation and mail with other checks and the donation sheet to P.O. Box 11388, Chicago, IL 60610.

Is there anything else I should know?

That’s it!  Thanks for helping Global HeartStrings!
